Oil prices were mixed at the start of trading this week, as markets assessed US President Donald Trump's meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Alaska last Friday, as part of efforts to end the deadliest war in Europe in 80 years.
Brent crude futures for October delivery settled at $65.83 a barrel at 7:59 a.m. Mecca time on Monday.
Whereas US Nymex crude futures for September delivery rose slightly by 0.1%, or 7 cents, to $62.87 a barrel.
While the United States has not exerted any additional pressure on Russia to end the war in Ukraine through measures to restrict its oil exports, Trump has said he does not need to immediately consider imposing retaliatory tariffs on countries like China for purchasing Russian oil, but he may be forced to do so within two or three weeks.
Trump is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders today to discuss reaching a quick peace agreement to end the Russian-Ukrainian war
