India and the United States are preparing for a new round of trade talks this week after New Delhi pledged to increase its imports of US energy, an Indian official told Reuters.
The official told Reuters on Monday that New Delhi is seeking to increase its purchases of US gas and energy as part of a broader understanding to strengthen bilateral trade relations.
He noted that Indian officials held constructive talks in Washington last month, where both sides agreed to continue the dialogue with the aim of reaching a mutually beneficial trade agreement as soon as possible.
Negotiations between the two countries began in February with the aim of doubling bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030, but were suspended in August after President Donald Trump imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods due to purchases of Russian oil
