The Kremlin warned on Wednesday that the European Union's decision to ban all Russian gas imports by autumn 2027 will drive up energy costs in the region and accelerate its economic decline.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Europe is imposing higher energy costs on itself, which could undermine its future economic viability, according to AFP.
This comes after the European Union reached an agreement to completely eliminate Russian gas imports by autumn 2027, as part of efforts to reduce Moscow's energy revenues.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen praised the agreement, saying it marks the beginning of a new era in which the EU will achieve complete energy independence from Russia.
