Natural gas prices in Europe fell during Wednesday's trading, amid market caution regarding US President Donald Trump's seriousness in imposing additional sanctions on Russian energy trade.
Netherlands natural gas futures for September delivery fell 1.1% to €34.04 per megawatt-hour at 1:25 p.m. Mecca time, after touching €33.85.
Despite the decline, prices have been trading in a narrow range for more than a month, supported by rising gas inventories in Europe, which reduced concerns about supply shortages. This comes despite the approaching deadline for a truce between Russia and Ukraine and Washington's threat of additional sanctions.
Despite Trump's threats to impose further economic sanctions on Russia and buyers of Russian energy if Moscow fails to reach a truce, market uncertainty about the extent of Washington's escalation has contributed to a temporary decline in prices, according to Bloomberg
