US President Donald Trump said his administration could decide on a new Federal Reserve chairman before the end of the year, signaling a near-term for one of the most important economic positions in the United States.
Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, "We may make a decision on the Fed chair by the end of the year," without revealing the names of the candidates.
For his part, US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said the administration will conduct a "second round of interviews," adding that the final list of candidates will be presented to the president after the Thanksgiving holiday, according to Reuters.
This comes as global markets await the identity of the next Federal Reserve chairman, given the direct impact it will have on interest rate trends and US monetary policy in the coming period.
