The European Union is preparing to propose measures to ban gas imports from Russia

The European Union is preparing to propose measures to ban imports of Russian gas by the end of 2027, after Russia was previously its largest energy supplier.

According to Bloomberg, the European Commission is expected to announce in June a proposal to ban the import of Russian gas, whether via pipelines or as liquefied natural gas (LNG), with the ban set to take effect by the end of 2027.

Russian gas imports have already shrunk, accounting for around 19% of the EU’s total gas purchases in 2024, down from over 40% before the war
