Tesla Sales in the UK Drop by 46% in May

Tesla’s new car sales in the UK fell by 46% year-on-year in May, amid growing competition and backlash over CEO Elon Musk’s rhetoric and political activity.

According to preliminary data from research firm New AutoMotive, Tesla sold 1,758 units in the UK last month, down from 3,244 units during the same period last year. Despite losing some market share, the company remains the best-selling electric vehicle brand in the UK so far this year.

The data also showed that new car registrations in the UK rose by 4.3% to reach 144,100 vehicles in May, with electric vehicle sales increasing by 28% year-on-year, according to Reuters.

Among its Chinese competitors, BYD doubled its new car sales in the UK to reach 1,388 units during the month
