US President Donald Trump threatened on Monday to impose new tariffs and restrict technology exports on countries that target US tech companies with digital taxes or related regulations.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump accused foreign governments of discriminating against US tech companies through digital services taxes and digital marketplace rules, while granting "complete exemption" to Chinese tech giants.
"With this fact, I am putting all countries that impose digital taxes, legislation, rules, or regulations on notice that unless these discriminatory measures are removed, I will impose substantial additional tariffs on their exports to the United States of America, and I will restrict our exports of highly protected technology and chips," Trump wrote
