Oil prices rise ahead of US inventory data

Oil prices rose as markets awaited the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, and ahead of the release of US inventory data.

Brent crude futures for October delivery rose 0.2%, or 12 cents, to $66.24 a barrel at 8:05 a.m. Mecca time on Wednesday.

US Nymex crude futures for September delivery also rose 0.15%, or 8 cents, to $63.25.

Trump and Putin are scheduled to meet in Alaska next Friday to discuss ending Russia's war in Ukraine, which has affected oil markets since February 2022.

Markets are awaiting the release of official weekly inventory data from the Energy Information Administration later today, after the American Petroleum Institute estimated crude oil inventories rose by 1.5 million barrels during the week ending August 8
