The Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) has announced a 38% increase in electricity prices.
With this increase, the amount that a residential consumer using 100 kilowatt-hours of electricity will pay has risen to 207.23 Turkish Lira.
Significant Increase in Electricity Prices
In a statement issued by the Electricity and Dual Production Regulatory Authority, it was mentioned that the rise in energy production costs has affected the final retail prices of electricity sales.
It was stated that the price increase was 38% for residential consumers, 30% for agricultural activity consumers, 38% for the lower tier of public and private sector service consumers, and 20% for the higher tier.
The new tariffs will come into effect on July 1st.
It was announced that the price hikes will be effective starting from July 1, 2024. This increase in electricity prices is expected to have a significant impact on consumer budgets. Some market commentators emphasize that this increase is inevitable to ensure stability in the energy market and cover operating costs
